Happy Labor Day from Essential Worship!!
What is Labor Day? History.com tells us “Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894.”
This has been a hard year for so many workers who feel burnt out, tired, and disheartened. Yet, the Lord sees your toil and strength, even when it doesn’t feel that way!
Galatians 6:9 tells us, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Let this be the verse that sets you on fire for Jesus and reminds you that your labor is worth it.
However, on this Labor Day, we want to remind you that you have an important labor in life through Christ that is greater and more fulfilling than any earthly work will ever be. In Luke 10, Jesus is in the process of sending out seventy-two messengers to spread His message. In verses 2-3, He says something extremely interesting, “He told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers to his harvest field, Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.’”
The harvest is a symbol of the Good News of Christ!! It’s a plentiful harvest, yet there are not enough laborers. We all have a duty to do our part and share the Good News of Jesus to others to the best of our ability.
Our work on earth is so important and the Lord blesses us with jobs for a reason! However, our work for Him is most important at all! What an honor it is to get to labor for Jesus. We must spend special time praying to God for more and more workers to be added to His kingdom. Even though the wolves are fierce, God is greater.
Pray today that on this special Labor Day, his work grows even greater. Pray that He adds more harvesters to His field.
